New in the Old

1987 Royal Institute of British Architects International Student Competition

(Second Joint Prize - with D. Mintz)

The theme of this competition was  intervention in a historic context.

We chose our site as the meeting point of the Old City and the newer City Center.

The project intended to integrate old and new themes, combining them into a main social space, adjacent to the future City Hall, and crossed by the city's main artery - the historic Jaffa Road - proposed as a pedestrian street in this section.

The proposed building and open spaces are meant to act as a mediator of scales, between the new and the old, the day-to-day of the new city and the timeless scale of the Old City and the Judean Desert.
